Although its history is sketchy, skateboarding was most likely developed sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s when surfers in California took to the concrete when the waves were flat. No one knows who made the first skateboard. It's possible that several people came up with similar ideas at around the same time. We do know that those first skateboards were wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels attached to the bottom. The boxes evolved into planks, and eventually companies began producing actual skateboard decks of pressed layers of wood, very similar to the decks of today. "Sidewalk surfing" soon became all the rage, and it spread across the country as inlanders were able to emulate their surfer brethren without the need for proximity to the ocean. These many years later, there are nearly 20 million skateboarders in the world. Whether you're an avid skater or just want to watch skate videos with great skate tricks and a killer soundtrack, 64MM is the show for you.
